Anthony Joshua beats Parker on points

British- born Nigerian boxer Anthony on Saturday defeated New Zealander Joseph Parker in a world heavyweight title bout at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff , Wales .
It was a unanimous points win for Joshua after two judges gave the fight it to him by a margin of 118- 110, with the third scoring it 119 -109 .
With the victory , Joshua now holds the WBA , IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight titles . Only Deontay Wilder ’ s WBC belt is stopping the boxer , whose father is from Sagamu, Ogun State , from having the full set .
Though Parker lost his world heavyweight unification bout by unanimous decision, he is the first man to go the distance with Joshua .
“ My strategy was to stick behind the jab, that ’s one of the most important weapons, ” Joshua said in the ring afterwards.
Parker’ s best rounds were the first two and possibly the fifth, but he looked the most dangerous when he was tagged . Unfortunately for him , when he went to engage and brawl, the referee got in the way .

Okagbare breaks 22year old African record

Blessing Okagbare on Saturday started her outdoor season with an impressive 22.04 secs in her 200 m race at the Wes Kittley Invitational Track and Field Meet at the Abilene Christian University , which erased the 22- year- old previous African record of 22. 07secs set by Mary Onyali at a Meet in Switzerland in 1996.
Cierra White followed in second place in 23.26 secs while Natasha McDonald settled for third in 24. 23secs .
Apart from becoming the new African record , Okagbare ’s winning time also becomes the new national record in the women ’s 200m . Okagbare ’s previous personal best in the event was 22.23 secs was set at the 2014 Eugene Diamond League .
With her latest exploit, it means that Okagbare now holds the Nigerian records in the women ’s 100 m ( 10. 79secs ) and 200m . Okagbare did not compete in the indoor season , which started in January. The Wes Kittley Invitational was her first competition of the season.

Moses on target as Super Eagles beat Poland

The Super Eagles pipped Poland 1-0 in Wroclaw in Friday’s pre-World Cup friendly.
Victor Moses’ second half penalty after he was fouled was enough to secure the win for the Super Eagles.
The game saw young Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho make his first start for the Super Eagles.
It was a game the Super Eagles failed to create clear scoring opportunities and mostly played on the back foot before their goal.
Robert Lewandoski had the game’s first big chance on eight minutes after sliding to meet a dangerous low cross and his effort came off the post with Uzoho well beaten.
The game was briefly stopped on 10 minutes following injury to Karol Linetty over a collision.
Poland were forced into an early substitution as Linetty could not continue and had to be replaced.
The Super Eagles won a free-kick in a good area on 34 minutes but Moses’ effort went over the wall but did not trouble Lukasz Fabianski in the Poland goal.

Captain Mathew Ekeinde, one of Nigeria’s most senior and respected pilots, and husband to one of Africa’s biggest movie sensations, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, has opened up on how he met and fell in love with the Nollywood icon.
Capt. Ekeinde, who has been married to Omotola for 22 years with the marriage blessed with four wonderful kids made this revelation recently.

Osinbajo's daughter church wedding

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday led top government officials and captains of industry, among others, to attend the wedding of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo ’s daughter , Damilola .
The wedding service of Damilola and her husband, Oluseun , was held earlier in the day at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja .
The guests thereafter moved to the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa , Abuja , where the reception took place .
Buhari was accompanied to the reception by his wife, Aisha.
State governors , ministers, presidential aides and other top government officials were present at the reception.
Like the traditional engagement that took place on Thursday, journalists were not allowed to cover any of the Saturday ’ s two events .
Rather, the vice -president ’s media team had earlier advised that journalists will not be allowed to “ record or film the event. ”
The media office promised to “ share information and images — still and video — about the events later in the day . ”

What does it take to become a broadcaster?
A lot of work. A balanced temperance, some one with a good staying power, passion for the job and  you must stay intelligent all the time.
How did you get into broadcasting?
It was instruction from God. I was given a template for a radio programme for my service year and it all started from there.
You have a unique way of casting news, what motivates you?
My late boss at AIT Mr Ladi Lawal told me to always tell a story and not read the stories and if am telling you a story, then it becomes a conversation between me and my audience. Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr and goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa say the form of Argentina superstar Lionel Messi is not giving them worries ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup .
