FIIDI CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE

Peaceful coexistence was a theory developed and applied by the Soviet Union at various points during the Cold War in the context of its ostensibly Marxist–Leninist foreign policy and was adopted by Soviet-influenced "Socialist states" that they could peacefully coexist with the capitalist bloc.


In response to the declaration by the United Nations General Assembly for  observation of  August 22nd every year beginning from 2019 as the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.The Foundation for Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue Initiatives (FIIDI) organized a Community Outreach in Port Harcourt (Nigeria) on Thursday 22 August 2019.  The one day event had well outlined  programmes which   began earlier  with presention of  Awards by the Country  Coordinator MR. OLUSHOLA AKANDE to two distingushed traditional rulers in Rivers state as part of the activities marking the day.

D'TIGERS,NIGERIA'S MEN BASKETBALL TEAM QUALIFIES FOR OLYMPICS 2020

D' tigers, Nigeria's men’s basketball team became the first team sport to secure a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after defeating China 86-73 points in the last classification game of the 2019 FIBA Men World Cup.
The resilient team took the initiative in the second quarter from China who won the first quarter, 21-19 points as they asserted their authority to end the first half, 35-31 points.

Playing against China who were also desperate for an automatic ticket from Asia, the players came to the party to clinch the 3rd and 4th quarters, 25-20, 26-22 on the day that 4 players recorded double figures.
Josh Okogie who shot 16 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds to help his team to a win was unanimously voted as the man of the match while Nnamdi Vincent scored 14 points, 2 assists and 1 rebound.

Ekpe Udoh and Chimezie Metu scored 13 and 11 points respectively as the D’Tigers recorded the highest number of wins (3) in a single World Cup.

NIGERIA RELAY TEAM SET FOR IAAF

Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams are set to qualify for the 17th edition of the IAAF World Athletics Championship holding from the 27th September to 6th October, 2019, in Doha, Qatar. With the the qualifying period for the relays spanning from 7th March, 2018, to 6th September, 2019, both teams currently occupy the 16th and 11th positions respectively on the IAAF toplist. The Top 10 from the 2019 IAAF World Relays back in May, and Top 6 from the current standings will make it to the global championships. The women’s 4x400m team’s path to the Championships looks the most straightforward after the quartet of Patience Okon-George, Glory Nathaniel, Praise Idamadudu and Yinka Ajayi clocked 3:25.29 on their way to winning Silver at the Commonwealth Games on the 14th of April, 2018.
