Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara says his administration is taking decisive steps to address environmental hazards along the Airport-Obiri-Ikwerre Road.
Governor Fubara stated this after he inspected a burrow pit in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area, to serve as a permanent refuse disposal site in the state.
He emphasized that there was need to find an a suitable area to serve as a permanent dumpster due to environmental hazards and unpleasant odors at current waste disposal along the Airport-Obiri-Ikwerre Road, which serves as a major gateway into the state.
Governor Fubara who was conducted to the site by the Board Chairman, Rivers State Waste Management Agency, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike and its Managing Director, Dr. Ibimina Wokoma, assured that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure the government takes full ownership of the site.
The Governor who commended RIWAMA for their commitment to improving waste management in the state, also inspected ongoing renovation work at the Permanent Secretary's Quarters in Elimgbu, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
