AM A GREAT HEART LIP READER- JANE OTTAH

www.naijaentertainers.blogspot.com bring to you it's chat with Jane ottah, an advocate for the deaf people, enjoy reading.

Jane ottah, a final year student of Rivers state university studying Education foundation has been at the forefront of the call for the rights the deaf in Nigeria. She said, people with disabilities need the protection of  a disability rights law because of discrimination faced in school and at the workplace, often based in a fear that disability is contagious.

Jane lost her hearing at the age of 6 and  she developed a passion for reading and writing because she felt, “…as a Deaf person, these were the best options I now had to cope effectively with the world having lost touch with the hearing world.”

As she adjusted to her deafness, Jane became upset at the way the able-bodied population viewed disability, treating it as a matter of charity rather than a human rights issue.  Her plans after graduation includes teaching, acting and advocating  for the Deaf.
She said, “The Deaf Want to be Heard” and discussed how difficult it is to cope in school and even understand the sermon preached in church

When asked how she copes during church servicesat her local church, Christ Chapel international church as a Deaf person, Jane says, “Well, it's hard to tell on this...sometimes I don't understand the message preached but I only get the Bible passages  displayed on the screen. As for the message it's a bigger problem but I can't do noting about it, i will say am blessed because am a great heart lip reader".

Jane ottah has among her hobbies reading, dancing, traveling, hanging out with friends and love been on social media, when asked her how she knows the beat of music she dances to, Jane said, Well, we the deaf don't need to hear the song before we dance, we feel the beat.
