APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR, ACADEMIC: PROFESSOR JUWON TUNDE AROTIBA

The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has approved the appointment of Professor Juwon Tunde Arotiba as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, with effect from Thursday, 14 August 2025. He has since then assumed duty following the retirement of the erstwhile Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Aderonke M. Baiyeroju on Wednesday, 13 August 2025. Professor J. T. Arotiba was born on 13 December 1957 at Mopa, Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State. He attended ECWA Primary School , Enugbo, Ileteju Mopa (1965 - 1970), ECWA Secondary School, Mopa (1971 -1975), School of Basic Studies, Kwara State College of Technology (now Kwara Polytechnic) for his Advanced Level Certificate University of Cambridge moderated 'A' levels (1975 - 1977). Professor Arotiba attended the University of Ibadan from 1978 to 1983, where he obtained a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in 1983. He later proceeded to obtain a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the University in 2007. Professor Arotiba holds the Fellowships of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Dental Surgery (1992) and West African College of Surgeons (1997) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the Fellowship of the International College of Dentistry (2013). He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2020. Following his consistent hard work and academic potentials, he was employed as Lecturer 1 in 1992 and has served diligently in producing many Dental Surgeons and Maxillofacial Surgery specialists, who have gone ahead to become icons on the professional field. He is currently an Honorary Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Ibadan.
