The Forum of Traditional Rulers of the Kalabari Ethnic Nationality has raised alarm over a potential violent clash in Kalabari land, urging Governor Siminalayi Fubara and security agencies to take swift action to prevent any crisis.
In a statement signed by key traditional rulers, including the Amayanabo of Bakana, King Lawrence O. O. Odum Barboy; the Obonogina of Obonoma, Ene Dateme; and the Amanyanabo of Ifoko, King Emmanuel Stephen, the forum expressed deep concerns over two opposing groups scheduled to hold separate events at the same venue on Saturday.
According to the statement, a political pressure group has planned a civic reception at the Community Secondary School Field in Abalama, Asari-Toru Local Government Area, while the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Eastern Zone is also set to hold its congress at the same location.
The traditional rulers warned that if the events proceed as planned, it could lead to a breakdown of law and order. As a preventive measure, they have called for the outright cancellation of all scheduled activities at the venue, regardless of prior approvals.
They further advised both parties to reschedule their events on different days and at separate venues to avoid any potential conflict.
