When the Editor of “This Day” News paper just introduced Tunde Onakoya as “The chess player “ last week during the Award Ceremony I was unhappy.
He took time to recognize the achievements of the other individuals who were in the same award category as Tunde but could only introduce him as “Chess player”
I was still in my feelings when Tunde took the microphone and properly introduced himself.
Reminding the crowd that he is not just a chess player, he is a man who have taken hundreds of children off the slums and street using Chess as a vehicle. He reminded the crowd that he is that one man who has shown the world that you can win in this world with anything you choose to do.
There was applause ๐ after he reminded the world who he is.
Asides winning the Guinness record for longest chess game, winning 10 top world players simultaneously in a game and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding for his Chess in the slums campaign, Tunde has shown that there are diamonds in the rough.
I love these group of young people Nigeria is seeing. They will not keep quiet and let you under represent them. Their achievements are not for you to undermine.
Well played Tunde!
