There are many challenges that every business—large or small—faces- Polit Victoria Monday .

My name is Polit Victoria Monday , I’m a pig farmer 🐖 and the founder of Nenpolit integrated farms . I am from Plateau State - Nigeria. Let me share some of challenges out of many that I have faced in piggery and also how I solved them. Four years ago, I was passionate about starting a pig farming business but my challenge was where to set up the pig farm since I wasn't having my own place, perhaps i was in a rented apartment 😔 I decided to talk to my former landlord , I pleaded with him to rent me a little space at the back of his house to enable me start up the business and he agreed. So my first challenge in pigerry was where to set up my farm but God came through for me by using my former landlord who agreed to help me with the portion of his land to start the business. God bless him for me 🙏 Another challenge I faced at the early stage of starting the business was getting good breeds. I bought some breed of weaners from a farmer in vom to add to the three i started with... Not knowing that the ones I bought from him were malnourished and have entered stunted growth. I was a novice with little or no knowledge in the business so when I brought them to the farm, I noticed they were not growing at all, so after 5months of feeding and treatment without changes , i decided to end their lineage by selling them to a butcher. The butcher came and price each for 5k , it was painful but that was there worth, their growth was poor, so I have no choice than to sell to him. They were 5 in number so he gave me 25k for the 5😪. It was a great lost but I was happy that I did the right thing by not selling to another farmer but selling to a butcher . ( 2021) How I solve the problem 👇 After the incident ,I decided to go on intensive research about the business to be able to know the basics in piggery so that I won't be a victim again. When I was done with my research and training on the business, I then got quality and pure exotic breed of large white, landrace,Duroc etc to start all over again. I am happy because I now have quality breed of pigs with good genetics... My experience has helped me to get it right. The performance of the pigs I have now are amazing. If you see my pigs, you will be impress 🤗 Next 👇 In May, 2023, I decided to rent a two bedroom stand alone flat at zarmaganda cus the place I constructed at Latya was becoming small for me since the number of pigs has increased... I wasn't having enough money to develop the land I bought in 2022, so I thought it's wise for me to rent a bigger space and do the business in the compound pending when I will have money to develop the land I bought So I rented a two bedroom stand alone flat at Zarmaganda at the rate of 500,000 naira and I built extra structures in the compound for my pigs which the landlord was aware, perhaps it was part of our agreement. I spent 859,000 naira to built the pigs pen in the compound. My plan was to stay there for 2-3years to enable me raise some money then build my own. In October 2023 , just 5months in the new house I rented, I got a notice from the new landlord telling me to vacate the premises when my rent expire, that he will want to use his place so i will not renew it My world was shattered, I spent 500k to rent the space and 859k to build the extra structures for the pigs which cost a total of 1,359,000 naira and here is a notice before me to vacate and hand over possession on the expiration of my rent which will be April 30, 2024 . The landlord is someone I know ooo, someone that I do mill my pigs feed in his place oo. He knows my struggles fa 😢... I cried my eyes out😭 and I went back to God in prayers telling him that I don't want to rent another place again, I told God that i want him to provide me with money so that i would develop my place cus I don't want to rent again. I told God to bring more customers my way so that I will be able to make sells and get enough money for the project. And yes God did it. I took the bold step to start developing my place in December, 2023 and I finished it in March , 2024. I packed to my own place on the 6th of March, 2024 even before the time that my rent in zarmaganda will expire... Now in my own place I was hoping the challenges have come to an end. It's time to enjoy right? but no 😌 The challenges keep coming Next 👇 I have challenge of water in my P.site that I built... I have wrote about it here if you all remember So this year, one of my resolve is to drill borehole and rest with the water issue. I paid 40k last two weeks for them to come and do survey so that I will drill borehole, the report came out that there will be no water if they drill the borehole because the rock is a hard one 😢😢😢 I was like Vicky what next 🤔 The next option is waterboard yeah? I called them to come and give me estimate and from the point they will tap water to my farm is 750metres ... That's very far 😔 omoh the distance 😫 but I don't have a choice than to work on how I will get waterboard water in the farm cus that's the last option I have. Currently I am buying water every two weeks. I have 11000 litre tanks in my farm and my pigs do finish the water in two weeks . Meaning I buy water twice monthly. I pay 25k for them to bring water for me, so what I spend on water alone monthly is 50k( 25k ×2) . The profit dey go for water 😢 Some days I will soak my pillow with tears telling God that I am getting tired and the challenges are too many for a young lady like me to handle. From one challenge to another Kai ! Last week before my birthday, I cried and I spoke with God. I asked God why will he allow his baby girl to come to a place that there is no water? He should have given me a sign from the beginning at least 😢. I cried and cried while talking to him . But God assured me that "Vicky I am with you, you didn't come this far with your doings, I am fully aware and I will work it out just like I did by helping you built the farm". My hope is on God, I will live to testify. It will soon be over. I am paying the price. I am breaking barriers and I know it won't be easy. I will be an inspiration to my generation.
