The Rivers State Government to rehabilitate victims and communities ravaged by flood across the state.


 The Rivers State Government has unveiled plans to rehabilitate victims and communities ravaged by flood across the state.


The Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, INIME AGUMA said this while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt.


INIME AGUMA said measures are already in place to reduce the post-flood hardship on affected residents and communities in the state.

    

INIME AGUMA also said that mattresses, blankets, and clothes for children and adults including cassava stems that can produce in 6 months will be distributed to the flood-affected victims across the state.


She said the victims of flood will access the materials after the flooding.

       

In the meantime, the Rivers State Government has donated relief materials to flood-ravaged communities in Emohua and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas. 

The move follows a directive by the state Governor mandating the committee to ensure the needs of some communities that shares boundaries with already affected communities are met. 

The Rivers State Flood Management Task Force led by its chairman, GEORGE NWAEKE while handing over the materials to the Chairmen of Emohua and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas reiterated that the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration will not relent in ensuring the flood victims are properly taken care.

GEORGE WEKE said the materials will help to reduce the hardship faced by the flood victims in the state

   

On his part, the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr. CHIDI LYIOD while commending the Governor said the relief materials will help reduce the challenges of flood victims at the IDP camp in Rumuekpe.

    

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, ROWLAND SEKIBO represented by his Deputy, WEST CAROLINE NAPOLEON also commended the Governor for providing food materials for the flood-affected residents in Akuku-Toru.

      

Our correspondent, FEMI OGUNKILEDE reports that materials donated include bags of Rice, bags of Beans, Gallons of Palm oil, Groundnut oil, and cartoons of Noodles, others include cartons of Maggi, bags of corn seeds, Cartoons of Soap, Mats, mattresses amongst others.
