Deliberate lateness is not a virtue anywhere in the world-Adedeji Odulesi

Recently, a colleague who was helping me put up names of dignitaries, gave me a name and explained that the person in question will attend but will come in late so as to attract attention. That was exactly what happened.

At another event, a notable person came in after the event had started and came to seat at the front. Unfortunately, all the seats in the front were already taken and no one was willing to stand up for him. He had to humbly find a place elsewhere despite his status.

At yet another event, the MC I worked with came in late and was nevertheless briefed. He later made a costly mistake which led to a lot of anger from the organisers. They called for a meeting asking me to be the witness if he wasn't properly briefed.

Whether we are the guest, the MC, a speaker or indeed a service provider, early arrival to events is very key.

Deliberate lateness is not a virtue anywhere in the world.

The less gifted but timely will over time be preferred to the more gifted but tardy. Tardiness is definitely not a virtue.
