Cake making business is very competetive–Millicent Albert, confectioner

Mrs Millicent Albert is the CEO of Sowis cakes & Pasteries , a confectionary which specializes in baking cakes. Sowis is known for mouth- watering cakes with unique recipes she learnt in a space of two months. In this Exclusive interview, Millicent, a graduate of the prestigious Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma in Edo State shared her success story and how she has been able to calm the storm in her business.

How did you start?

Cake business is exciting although maybe challenging at the incipient stage. I started my after two months intensive training in 2017.

what were the initial challenges you face when you started?

At the initial stage the people around me were not confident  in my fondant design. So I had to bake several free cakes and sometimes charge very low price. Of course, it worked! Business grew gradually especially as I hung a shouting banner in front of my house showcasing my new trade.

Like how much will it cost you to invest in a cake business?

Baking business is easy and cheap to start as soon as you have an oven and mixer. Afterwards, talk to a good and successful baker to train you for a few weeks. Haggle the fee and you are good to go.

Baking, especially cakes, is highly competitive. So, how have you been able to tackle competition?

As matter of fact, cake business is very competitive several established and renowned bakers are already in the market but i am not discouraged.  Basically, people who have patronized me refer me to other people in the bid to encourage me. I am determined to succeed to the highest height even though business is slow but steady.
