.AMAA: Rita Dominic as the last girl standing

With British actor, Dudley O’Shaughnessy, as star guest, Nigerian film practitioners chase laurels at the African Movie Academy Awards holding in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Saturday
There is something peculiar with the African Movie Academy Awards that will be decided on Saturday. Unlike in the past when Nollywood big babes such as Stephanie Okereke, Mercy Johnson and Funke Akindele dominated some major categories, the outlook shows that divas from other generations and countries are also consolidating their positions.
Indeed, the only consolation from the big babes is that they have a ‘representative’ in person of Rita Dominic in a major segment of the awards.
Among other nominees in various categories, all eyes will be on Dominic, who is contesting with five other actresses for the Best Actress in a Leading Role. She was nominated for her act in The Meeting, a comic film she released last year.
Other top practitioners  nominated in other categories, include, Niji Akanni (Best Director category), Bimbo Manuels and Femi Jacobs – with Last Flight to Abuja and Heroes and Zeros also flaunting multiple nominations.
Meanwhile, the organisers have unveiled British actor, Dudley O’Shaughnessy, as the star guest at the event.  Also, a model, he is popular for his role in Rihanna’s We Found Love video) .
Also a celebrated boxer, he, at 19, caught the attention of a local modelling agency, and then moved to NEXT Model Management. He then began to focus on modelling.
In 2011, he was chosen to star in the music video for We Found Love by Rihanna. Since then,  his profile has risen.
O’Shaughnessy has featured in some of the works by Oswald Boateng, Fred Perry and Stone Island (where he featured in a short film portraying his aspiration to be an Olympic boxer).
He has also appeared on the cover of fashion magazines, such as Fiasco and the Italian magazine unFLOP, as well as featuring in the editorial by Bullett magazine, alongside Vogue cover girl, Valerie van der Graaf.
In 2012, he appeared on the runway for designers, such as Jeremy Scott fall 2012 New York, Timo Welliand’s 2012 fall ready to wear collection and walked for Michael Michalsky at the Berlin fashion week.
