Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is set to equal Nwankwo Kanu's record of six Africa Cup of Nations appearances.
Yobo, who has already overtaken Kanu as Nigeria's most
capped player with a record 89 appearances, has featured in the
tournament on five occasions from 2002 to 2010, during which he managed
to scoop four bronze medals. But the 32-year-old centre-back has not set his mind on winning the Nations Cup trophy this time, in what might be his final appearance in the tournament for Nigeria.
“It’s not going to be easy [to win the trophy],” he says. “But we will give it our best shot. We therefore urge Nigerians to keep praying for us and believe in this team.”
Yobo will lead Nigeria in their warm-up match against Nations Cup debutants Cape Verde on Wednesday.
