Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed that his switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is motivated by one priority above all else, the safety, stability and long-term development of Rivers State.
Speaking at Government House, Port Harcourt, where he formally received his APC membership card from the Party’s National Chairman (represented by Rivers APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha), Governor Fubara explained that joining the ruling party at the centre became both strategic and necessary.
According to him, aligning with the federal government will not only fast-track development but also guarantee peace and stability across the state. He added that supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is his way of acknowledging the President’s role in helping Rivers State navigate some of its toughest political moments.
With his entry into the APC, Governor Fubara said Rivers State is now positioned for a more unified and coordinated relationship with the federal government, noting that the path to strengthening the party ahead of 2027 has become clearer.
He assured the party’s national leadership that under his watch, Rivers State will stand firm as a strong base of the APC and pledged full support to the state party executives to ensure smooth operations and growth at all levels.
The Governor also thanked supporters and political leaders who stood by him, calling on them to increase their commitment as the state steps into what he described as a new phase of political consolidation and accelerated development.
Representing the APC National Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha praised Governor Fubara’s courage, describing his reasons for joining the party as patriotic and in the best interest of the state. He said the governor’s defection marks the beginning of a new era of unity and cooperation among political leaders in Rivers State.
The documentation process, conducted by the State APC Secretary, Chief Eric Nwibani, was witnessed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, who is in the state to flag off and commission key projects, alongside other political leaders.
