In his quest to improve education in the local government, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo on Monday launched an initiative called "School First." He said School First is an initiative aimed at supporting education in Obio/Akpor local government. Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo said the initiative is mainly to provide chairs, desk, scholarship, teachers training, writing materials for public schools in the local government area. He said: "The "SCHOOL FIRST" initiative is to support education in our local government. I'm aware the challenges you are facing in public schools; no chairs, no desk, I have told the supervisor for education that those schools where we don't have chairs and other school amenities the council under my leadership will provide those things." In her welcome address, the Supervisor for Education in Obio/Akpor local government, Barrister Abigail Chiorlu-Ejukwa, thanked the Chairman for the opportunity given to her to serve. She said the initiative came at the right time when the Chairman is celebrating his one hundred days in office. The supervisor highlighted that the "School First" initiative is a commitment to creating a sustainable and holistic educational environment that empowers our youths. She stressed that it will shape our future leaders, nurture talent, and equip our children with the skills they need to navigate increasingly complex world. The initiative will focus on: 1. Infrastructure development. 2. Educational resources. 3. Scholarship schemes. 4. Teachers training. 5. Vocational skills training. 6. Mentorship programs. Teachers and students took turn to hail the initiative and thank the Chairman for it. Highpoint of the ceremony was presentation by students of Government Secondary school Eneka, Government Girls Secondary school Rumueme, Community Secondary School Rumuepirikom, Government Technical College, and Community Secondary School Alakahia.
