Chioma Akpotha is a stellar actor with a degree in Banking and Finance from Lagos State University. She has been around the Nigerian movie industry for a long time that some people call her Chioma Chukwuka more than Chioma Akpotha.
Those keeping close tabs on Chioma since the early 2000s and 2010s still remember her as Chioma Chukwuka. It is almost as though people need to be reminded each time that her name is Chioma. Akpotha and not Chukwuka anymore.
2000 was the year she joined Nollywood and made her debut appearance in a film titled Handkerchief. Since her debut movie in Nollywood, Chioma has appeared in over 200 Nollywood movies to date.
In 2007, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for "Best Actress in a leading role" for her performance in the movie "Sins of the flesh", and the Afro Hollywood award for best actress in a lead role in 2010.
Chioma, who clocked 44 years on March 12th, 2024, has always distinguished herself with the type of movies she appears in and has continued with that to date.
She had to learn Yoruba in order to play her role in recently released Netflix series, Seven Doors. She played the role of an Igbo queen married to a Yoruba king.
To bring authenticity to her character, Chioma embarked on an immersive journey to learn fluent Yoruba, a language she didn’t speak prior to the role.
In a recent TVC interview alongside co-star, Femi Adebayo, Chioma revealed the extent of her preparation, saying, “I had to learn Yoruba specifically for this role, and it wasn’t just any Yoruba – it was a specific dialect with a unique tone.
Seven Doors, which premiered on Netflix on December 13, has received widespread acclaim for its engaging storyline, memorable characters, and outstanding performances. The series boasts of an impressive group of casts, including Femi Adebayo, Adebayo Salami, Jide Kosoko, and other Nollywood legends.
