Say she is the lady of the moment, and you won’t be wrong, as that
is what Mosunmola Abudu, better known as Mo Abudu, is at the moment. An
ambitious lady who has been likened to the American international TV
personality, Oprah Winfrey, Abudu has for long had a dream that is just
coming to reality.
Like Winfrey, Abudu stamped her face in people’s memories through hosting a TV programme, Moments With Mo, which was fashioned after Winfrey’s, a talk show with interesting guests and audience participation. And still like Winfrey, Abudu wanted more than the success of Moments With Mo was giving her.
She wanted her own TV channel and she is on the verge of achieving that reality now. At the end of this month, her own TV channel, EbonyLife TV, will begin airing across not just Africa, but the world. Speaking about EbonyLife, she said, “The Western media has sold us the best of the West, and even Asia has joined that race. It is time to not only sell Africa to the world but to ourselves.
And we are now in a position to take indigenous African brands to the rest of the world, giving everyone the best of both worlds. It doesn’t get any better.’ Owning a TV channel is never an easy thing, and it’s the same for Abudu.
It’s taken her years, and tons of money, to make her dream a reality. The date for the launching is July 1, a symbolic date, to say the least. So watch out on DStv as Mo Abudu’s dream seeks to change TV programming for good in Africa.
