True to her promise of unifying the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and making it a force to reckon with, President of the guild, Ibinabo Fiberesima, last week staged an unusual forum for Nollywood veterans in the South East. The event held at De Tweeters Lounge in Owerri, Imo State, witnessed the attendance of over 20 popular Nigerian actors with several years of acting experiences.
Several actors in attendance expressed their concerns and grouse about the past administrators of the guild but equally promised to work with Ibinabo as they have given their support and blessings to the president. In attendance were Chika Okpala, Fabian Adibe, Tom Njemanze, Rita Tony Edochie, Ikechukwu Ezenago, Stan Amadi, Samson Obidinne, Ifeanyi Odikaesieme, Chris Nkulor, Maxwell Ibezim, Ozo Akinbueze Osy Okeke, Louisa Rose Nwobodo, Chinwe Owoh, Vitalis Ndubuisi, Salome Okeke, Paul Udonsi, Don August, Ukpabi Nneoma, Cynthia Okereke, Ikwuegbu Stetta,
Ogechi Obilonu, Geraldine Ejiogu, Ferdinard Ohanekwu, Martin Njubigbo, Chimaroke Akubue and Remy Ohajianya. In her speech at the event, the president, who literally broke down in tears when the aged actors welcomed her with a standing ovation, disclosed that she has called for the forum to solicit the support of the veterans as well as the elderly in Nollywood for a better guild.
She said: “We have put in place several things for every member of our guild but how can members benefit all these when we can’t locate them or they have refused to be members of the guild because of one reason or the other? Thus, the need for this meeting and I can tell you that with this turn-out, I believe AGN would return to its days of glory,” Ibinabo also stressed that old members of the guild should re-validate their membership online via the guild’s website, www.actorsguildnigeria.org, while intending members should also do same.
This, according to the president, would help the guild build its member database and curb the widely complained mismanagement of funds meant for the guild. The actress and ex-beauty queen also disclosed that insurance policies, health plans, vacation plans among other benefits have been secured by her administration for members.
